The SW1 Townhouse series provides a unique style of living in close proximity to the Brisbane CBD whilst also providing easy access to South Bank, the cultural heart and emerging retail uses. The project features four individual townhouse style buildings incorporating 38 dwellings bisected by an active pedestrian spine. Long floor plates connect to terraces at the north and south to form an open plan living arrangement at ground. Openable glazing at either end allows natural light entry and promotes cross ventilation. Blade walls and selectively located screening provides spaces for refuge and privacy. Typically the houses are three levels which also provide heightened vertical expression to the facade. The ground floor level is raised slightly above external public areas to allow passive surveillance and each of the terrace houses has individual entry points to create a sense of identity and home. Contextually the buildings are designed to respond to the scale of adjoining buildings and to provide privacy against an urban environment.
