Client: St Mary’s School, Laidley

The Covered Area is the only large gathering space in the school, and it holds a privileged position at one end of the central courtyard, overlooking the playing ovals and local landscape. It also creates a landmark on behalf of the school with rural landscape, prominent of the approach to the school along White’s Road. The plan and form of the building have broken ranks from the existing language and planning arrangement of the classroom buildings. The roof form is celebratory, expressive of gathering, and the boldness of the form recognises the significance of this building in the life of the school.
