Solitaire in New Farm is a five-level apartment building on a riverfront property in one of Brisbane’s most established residential streets. The design approach responded to a need to create a sense of permanence and “home” for the users who were transitioning from established homes. The apartments themselves amplify the ability for the spaces to connect with their context through circulation that connect with the exterior and rooms that maximise solar access and ventilation. Where necessary these openings are moderated to suit the aspect or neighbouring context. A simple façade of lightly coloured concrete panels, zinc and aluminium creates a sense of a permanence that is in keeping with the established building stock of the area.
