kingsholme

Location: Corner Kingsholme & Macquarie Streets, Teneriffe

Kingsholme is a medium density apartment development on the fringe of Teneriffe. The low density of the built form is in deference to the large adjacent Woolstores. The building utilises face brick work as sculptural form assisted by steel framing as a direct contrast to its massive and decorative use by its adjacent predecessors. It is punctured by public spaces that are delineated by contrasting lightweight translucent structure. The form is fractured to meet the domestic context of Kingsholme Street.

The centre courtyard utilizes elements of the exterior fabric of the building, whilst the interior of the apartments are focused on providing substantial external spaces, directly accessible from living areas. Kingsholme received a commendation at the 2002 RAIA Regional Awards.
