ansonia & saratoga

Location: Macquarie Street, Teneriffe

Ansonia and Saratoga apartments were designed within the former woolstores on the Brisbane River in Teneriffe. The historic nature and large floor plates of the two buildings presented unique challenges to converting the former Woolstores to apartments. These unique elements informed the architectural response. The new work within the building contrasts with existing highlighted building fabric – high clerestory southlights, timber floors and large timber beams and columns.

New interventions within the existing spaces celebrate the expansiveness of the former woolstore spaces. Walls at the perimeter of the atriums follow the rhythm of the existing south lights over to create dynamic sculptural spaces. The small space between the buildings is activated to allow for a number of recreational uses, while still maintaining privacy to adjacent apartments.
